Swan Flat Road Ski/Snowshoe, 2 March, 2025

Sixteen Cache Hikers met at Smith’s Marketplace parking lot for an outing on a lovely bluebird springlike day; Dave P., Chris, Teresa, and Dave W. on skis and Susan (leader), Brent L., Kathy, Bree, Darcie, Linda, Brent J., Hiro, Sue, Bruce, Jane, and Austin on snowshoes.

We drove 31 miles to the Swan Flat Winter Trailhead parking area by the UDOT sheds arriving about 11 am. After a bit of discussion, the group decided to avoid carrying gear up and across the sheds driveway, so we began our trek to the east of the sheds nearer to where we parked. Dave P. was the guide for the first part of the trek heading north toward the familiar sink.

We soon arrived at the sink and after a bit of discussion, headed around the sink’s north side to connect with the traditional route coming in from the west. We continued north and then turned east and up toward the Swan Flat Road.

Once everyone arrived at the road, we decided to climb up the east slope to some rocks where we had lunch with gorgeous views of Beaver Mountain and the Bear River Range to the west. On the return trip, one skier chose to traverse lower down through the trees while the others headed down the road toward the parking area.
