2017 Summer Activity Schedule

Summer hikes are scheduled from May to mid-October.  Participants meet at the southwest corner of the Smith's Marketplace parking lot at 750 North Main Street in Logan, Utah.  Participants should bring food, water, appropriate clothing, and a donation for gas and parking fees, where applicable.

It is the participant’s responsibility to be sure the trip is within his/her ability and stamina, and to have adequate equipment.  In most cases the hiker should be prepared with sturdy boots, hat, first aid kit, rain protection, insect repellent, extra clothing, food, water, and optional hiking poles. Deer Fence The Cache Hikers will host a 5-mile Saturday hike along the Deer Fence Trail from Blacksmith Fork to Providence Canyon with an optional 3-mile extension to Dry Canyon. This easy/moderate warm-up hike (600 feet of elevation) provides great views of the Wellsville Mountains as it passes the Millville Predator Research Facility, springs and rock formations. Meet at 8:00 and expect to return before noon.  Car shuttle required.

18 May, 2017, Thursday River Trail The Cache Hikers will host a hike on the River Trail on Thursday. This is an easy hike along the Logan River in lower Logan Canyon, about 4 ½ miles (car shuttle required). Bring water and a snack. Meet at 8:00 a.m. and expect to return before noon. 21 May, 2017, Sunday Logan Canyon to Green Canyon The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike up the Wind Cave and Wind Cave Way trails, over the ridge and down the Beirdneau Trail to the Preston Valley Trailhead. This moderately strenuous hike features open views of Logan Canyon on an ascent of 2200 feet followed by a forested descent into Green Canyon, a trip of about 6 miles. Car shuttle required. 28 May, 2017, Sunday Right Hand Fork Loop The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike from Willow Creek to Cottonwood Creek. Located in the Right Hand Fork of Logan Canyon, hikers will enjoy early summer wildflowers and great views as they travel up Willow Creek and return via Little Cottonwood Canyon. 3 June, 2017, Saturday National Trails Day Join the Logan Ranger District in a National Trails Day activity to help maintain local hiking trails on Saturday. 4 June, 2017, Sunday Wood Camp Waterfall The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to a seasonal waterfall in Wood Camp Hollow. This is a moderate hike, about 4 ½ miles round trip with 1800 feet of elevation, including about 3 ½ miles over unmaintained trails. 10 June, 2017, Saturday City Creek The Cache Hikers will host a Saturday hike up City Creek near Richmond. This is a moderately strenuous hike, about 9 miles with 2500 feet of elevation. 17 June, 2017, Saturday Spawn Creek Trail Maintenance The Cache Hikers will host a trail maintenance day on the Spawn Creek Trail on Saturday. Clear brush and rocks until noon, have lunch and hike back to the Temple Fork trailhead. Wear sturdy boots, and bring clippers, loppers, gloves if you have them. 25 June, 2017, Sunday Temple Fork Sawmill The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike along Temple Fork to the historic sawmill site and to see the terrain that would be lost if the proposed Temple Fork Dam is built. This is an easy/moderate hike with wildflowers and beaver dams, about 6 miles round-trip and 700 ft. elevation gain. 2 July, 2017, Sunday Willow Creek Loop The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike along Willow Creek. Located in the Right Hand Fork of Logan Canyon, hikers will enjoy summer wildflowers and great views as they travel up Willow Creek and Ephraim’s Cutoff, past Hunsaker Spring and back to Willow Creek. Hikers will follow a forest road to Bubble Springs and hiking trails past Hansen Pond and down Blind Hollow. This is a moderately strenuous hike of 8.5 miles with about 2000 feet of ascent. Hikers will travel from Tony Grove, past Coldwater Spring to a Cottonwood Canyon overlook and back. This is an easy/moderate hike, about 4.5 miles with 900 feet ascent. 30 July, 2017, Sunday Cherry Peak The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to Cherry Peak. This is a strenuous hike of about 11 miles and 3800 feet elevation gain, from High Creek to Cherry Creek. Expect wildflowers, picturesque canyons, meadows, a mountain lake and spectacular views from this prominent peak. Car shuttle required. This moderate/moderately strenuous 10-mile hike gradually gains 1900 feet to the famous 1500-year-old Rocky Mountain Juniper tree, with wildflowers and canyon views along the way. This is a moderately strenuous 6.5 mile round trip with an elevation gain about 1900 feet to the highest peak in the Bear River Range. 19 August, 2017, Saturday Blacksmith Fork River Trail The Cache Hikers will host a hike along the Blacksmith Fork River on Saturday. This is an easy hike, about 3.5 miles round trip with about 200 feet of ascent. Opened last fall through the collaboration of Hyrum City, Cache County and the Utah Conservation Corps, this trail follows the south side of Blacksmith Fork River. 3 September, 2017, Sunday Tony Grove to Blind Hollow The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday Hike from Tony Grove to Blind Hollow. Expect a good view of Mt. Elmer on this moderately strenuous hike of 8 miles with 1000 feet of ascent and 3100 feet of descent. Car shuttle required. 10 September, 2017, Sunday Cottonwood Canyon - Jardine Juniper Loop The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to Jardine Juniper. This moderately strenuous loop hike (7 miles and 2000 feet of ascent with a bit of scrambling required in a few places) follows an old trail up to Jardine Juniper and returns down Cottonwood Canyon on another old trail. 23 September, 2017, Saturday Mendon Peak The Cache Hikers will host a Saturday hike in the Wellsville Mountains to Mendon Peak via Deep Canyon. This strenuous 7-mile hike climbs 2700 feet to the Wellsville ridge, with another 600 feet to the magnificent views from Mendon Peak. 30 September, 2017, Saturday Bunchgrass Creek The Cache Hikers will host a Saturday hike to Bunchgrass Creek via Tony Grove and White Pine Canyon. This moderately strenuous hike which requires a car shuttle, will be about 11 miles and 1000 feet elevation gain. Two lakes, peak views, and fall colors should make an interesting day.
