2018 Summer Activity Schedule

Summer hikes are scheduled from May to mid-October.  Participants meet at the southwest corner of the Smith's Marketplace parking lot at 750 North Main Street in Logan, Utah.  Participants should bring food, water, appropriate clothing, and a donation for gas and parking fees, where applicable.

It is the participant’s responsibility to be sure the trip is within his/her ability and stamina, and to have adequate equipment.  In most cases the hiker should be prepared with sturdy boots, hat, first aid kit, rain protection, insect repellent, extra clothing, food, water, and optional hiking poles. 12 May, 2018 Blacksmith Fork River Trail The Cache Hikers will host a hike along the Blacksmith Fork River on Saturday. This is an easy/moderate warm-up hike, about 6 miles round trip with about 300 feet of elevation gain. Opened recently through the collaboration of Hyrum City, Cache County and the Utah Conservation Corps, this trail follows the south side of Blacksmith Fork River.  Meet at 8:00 a.m. and expect to return about 1:00 p.m. Dave W., 435-750-5913, email Dave W

Deer Fence The Cache Hikers will host a 5-mile Saturday hike along the Deer Fence Trail from Providence Canyon to Blacksmith Fork. This easy/moderate warm-up hike (300 feet of ascent) provides great views of the Wellsville Mountains as it passes the Millville Predator Research Facility, springs and rock formations. Car shuttle required. Meet at 8:00 a.m. and expect to return before 1:00 p.m.

3 June, 2018, Sunday Willow Creek The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike up the Willow Creek drainage. Located in the Right Hand Fork of Logan Canyon, hikers will enjoy early summer wildflowers and great views as they travel up Willow Creek to Mud Flat and then looping back with a return via Little Cottonwood Canyon. 17 June, 2018, Sunday Tony Grove to Cherry Peak The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to Naomi Peak and Cherry Peak, two of the highest peaks in the Bear River Range. This is a strenuous hike at high elevation, about 10 miles with 3500 feet of ascent. 24 June, 2018, Sunday Richards Hollow The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike up Richards Hollow. This is an out-and-back scenic trail with waterfalls, meadows, beaver dams, forest, and perhaps some stream crossings. 1 July, 2018, Sunday Wood Camp Waterfall The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to a seasonal waterfall in Wood Camp Hollow. This is a moderate hike, about 4 ½ miles round trip with 1800 feet of elevation, including about 3 ½ miles over unmaintained trails. 7 July, 2018, Saturday Spawn Creek Trail Maintenance The Cache Hikers will host a trail maintenance day on the Spawn Creek Trail on Saturday. Clear brush and rocks until noon, have lunch and hike back to the Temple Fork trailhead. Bring food and water, wear sturdy boots, and bring clippers, loppers, gloves if you have them. Traveling in a loop from Tony Grove via the Bear Hollow trail, hikers enjoy summer wildflowers and scenic views. 22 July, 2018, Sunday Wood Camp to Cottonwood Canyon The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike from Wood Camp to Cottonwood Canyon. This is a moderately strenuous hike, about 7.5 miles with 2200 feet of ascent. The route follows the popular Old Juniper trail for several miles with an option to visit the juniper before heading north and descending on an unmaintained trail into Cottonwood Canyon. Short car shuttle required.

25 August, 2018, Saturday Stump Hollow to Peter Sinks The Cache Hikers will host a Saturday hike from Stump Hollow to Peter Sinks. Formed when underground limestone rock dissolved, this large bowl-shaped depression can be one of the coldest locations in the U.S. This is a moderately strenuous hike, with about 1400 feet of ascent and 10.5 miles. Meet at 8:00 a.m. and expect to return about 5:00 p.m. Catherine, 801-541-5463

9 September, 2018, Sunday Peter Sinks The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to Peter Sinks. Formed when underground limestone rock dissolved, this large bowl-shaped depression can be one of the coldest locations in the U.S. The route follows the Great Western Trail, from Stump Hollow to the Forestry Camp via the Turkey Trail. This is a strenuous 12-mile hike, with 1400 feet elevation gain and a descent of 2200 ft. Car shuttle required. 16 September, 2018, Sunday Naomi Peak The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Naomi Peak on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous 6.5-mile round trip with an elevation gain about 1900 feet to the highest peak in the Bear River Range. 23 September, 2018, Sunday Smithfield Canyon to Tony Grove The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike from Smithfield Canyon to Tony Grove. This is a strenuous 8-mile hike with more than 3000 feet of elevation gain. Separate hiking groups will start at Smithfield Canyon and Tony Grove, meeting in upper Cottonwood Canyon for lunch and car key exchange. 7 October, 2018 Sunday Bunchgrass Creek The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to Bunchgrass Creek via Tony Grove and White Pine Canyon. This moderately strenuous hike which requires a car shuttle, will be about 11 miles and 1000 feet elevation gain. Two lakes, peak views, and fall colors should make an interesting day.
