2025 Summer Activity Schedule

Summer trips are scheduled from mid-May to early October. Visitors are welcome!

Meet 8:00 a.m. at the southwest corner of the Smith's Marketplace parking lot at 750 North Main Street in Logan, Utah unless specified otherwise. The trip leader determines the anticipated return time and any need to alter plans, if necessary.

Prepare for the activity: Bring food, water, and extra clothing. Make sure your equipment is adequate and that you have the skill and stamina necessary for the trip.

Rattlesnake Canyon
The Cache Hikers will host a hike up Rattlesnake Canyon on Sunday. This is an easy 5-mile out-and-back hike that ascends 900 feet from the trailhead in Wellsville Canyon to a hilltop overlooking Cache Valley. Expect great views and spring wildflowers along the way, with an expected return about 2:00 p.m.

Blacksmith Fork River Trail
The Cache Hikers will host a hike along the Blacksmith Fork River on Sunday. This is an easy hike, about 6 miles round trip with about 300 feet of elevation gain. Opened through the collaboration of Hyrum City, Cache County and the Utah Conservation Corps, this trail follows the south side of Blacksmith Fork River. Expect to return about 2:00 p.m.

Old Sardine Road
The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike along the Old Sardine Road, the auto route in and out of Cache Valley from the 1920s to 1960s. This is an easy hike, 5.5 miles round trip with 700 feet of ascent to a point overlooking US-89 and Dry Lake. Expect good views, some fossils, and an historical experience. Please consider carpooling since there is limited parking at the trailhead. Expect to return about 2:00 p.m.

Willow Creek - Cottonwood Loop Hike
The Cache Hikers will host a hike up the Willow Creek drainage on Sunday. This is a moderate 6.5-mile loop hike with about 1100 feet of elevation gain. Located in the Right Hand Fork of Logan Canyon, hikers will enjoy early summer wildflowers and great views as they travel up Willow Creek and return via Little Cottonwood Canyon. Expect to return about 3:00 p.m.

Jardine Juniper
The Cache Hikers will host a hike to the Jardine Juniper on Sunday. This moderately strenuous 10-mile hike follows the Old Juniper Trail from the Wood Camp Trailhead, gradually gaining 2000 feet to the famous 1500-year-old tree. Expect wildflowers, great views and an iconic destination. Expect to return about 3:00 p.m.

Twin Creek
The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike from Twin Creek to Bubble Spring, returning to US-89 via Blind Hollow. This is a moderately strenuous hike of about 8.5 miles round trip with about 2000 feet of ascent. Car shuttle required. Expect to return about 4:00 p.m.

Crescent Lake
The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Crescent Lake on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous hike, about 7 miles with about 2000 feet of ascent. Hikers will begin at the Franklin Basin road and travel over unmaintained trails to a seldom-visited lake, then return via Hells Kitchen Canyon. Car shuttle required. Expect to return about 4:00 p.m.

Temple Fork Sawmill
The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to the historic Temple Fork Sawmill site. This is an easy hike up the Temple Fork Sawmill trail, for a round trip of about 5.5 miles with 700 ft. of ascent. Expect wildflowers and beaver dams along the way. Expect to return about 3:00 p.m

Tony Grove to Wood Camp
The Cache Hikers will host a hike from Tony Grove to Wood Camp on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous hike about 12 miles with 1300 feet of ascent and 3800 feet of descent.  Half of the route is within the Mount Naomi Wilderness Area. Car shuttle required. Expect to return about 6:00 p.m.

White Pine Lake
The Cache Hikers will host a hike on Sunday from Tony Grove Lake to White Pine Lake. This is a moderate hike of approximately 8 miles round trip and 1300 feet of ascent. Expect abundant wildflowers and picturesque lakes. Expect to return about 4:00 p.m.

Beirdneau Trail
The Cache Hikers will host a hike on the Beirdneau Trail on Sunday.  From the Preston Valley Trailhead in Green Canyon, the route follows the Beirdneau Trail to the ridge between Green Canyon and Logan Canyon.  Expect a shady hike and a great view. This is a moderate hike about 5 miles and 1900 feet of ascent. Expect to return about 3:00 p.m.

Little Bear Trail
The Cache Hikers will host a hike along the Little Bear Trail on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous hike of 9 miles and 2400 feet of ascent, mostly over ATV trails. The route runs from the West Hodges trailhead near the old forestry camp in Logan Canyon, past Rex Reservoir, ending at Burnt Fork in South Sink.  A "key exchange" is planned with hikers traveling in the opposite direction to avoid a long car shuttle.  Expect to return about 6:00 p.m.

Washington Lake Group Camping
The Cache Hikers will host a 3-night (Thurs-Sun) camping and hiking trip to Washington Lake along the Mirror Lake Highway in the Uinta Mountains. We will use the Lincoln Group Site, located at 10,000 feet elevation, and hike from nearby trailheads. Camping fee will be divided by participants. Limit: 30 people. Reservations are required.

August 16-17-18, 2025 (Saturday hike, or Saturday - Monday backpack)
Mount Gog Meadow Hike/Backpack
The Cache Hikers will host an outing that follows the White Pine trail to a seldom used route SE of Mount Gog on Saturday, with a backpacking option for Satuday-Monday. This is a moderately strenuous day hike of about 7.5 miles and 1400 ft of ascent. The group will have lunch together and the day-hikers will return to Tony Grove. The backpackers will continue following the route another mile to a meadow near the Double-Top trail. This mile may have downed trees and other off-trail challenges. Backpackers prepare for a 2-night, 3-day excursion with an optional day hike from the basecamp on Sunday. Day hikers are expected to return about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Bunchgrass
The Cache Hikers will host a hike on the White Pine - Bunchgrass Canyon trail on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous hike of 9 miles with 1200 feet of ascent. Hikers will travel south from the Steam Mill trailhead to the Tony Grove Winter Trailhead. Car shuttle required. Expect to return about 4:00 p.m.

Wilderness Peak Loop Hike
The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Wilderness Peak (near Franklin Basin in southern Idaho) on Sunday. This is a strenuous hike, about 9.5 miles with 1700 feet of ascent, with un-maintained trails and off-trail hiking. Hikers travel west up White Canyon, north to Wilderness Peak, and return via Gibson Lakes. Expect to return about 6:00 p.m.

The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday trip in Smithfield Canyon. This is a strenuous hike, about 9 miles and 3000 feet of elevation, from the Smithfield Canyon Trailhead to Cottonwood Canyon and back. Expect fall colors and great views on this Wilderness area hike.  Expect to return about 5:00 p.m.
