Participants are encouraged to provide
their own transportation to minimize COVID risk, but
carpooling (to reduce parking congestion at
trailheads) may be acceptable for fully-vaccinated
and/or mask-wearing passengers.
Participants will maintainsocial
distance and other current protocols when
appropriate.
Winter trips are scheduled from
January to mid-March. Visitors are welcome!
Meet 10:00 a.m. at the southwest corner
of the Smith's Marketplace parking lot at 750 North Main
Street in Logan, Utah unless specified otherwise.
The trip leader determines the anticipated return time and
any need to alter plans, if necessary.
Prepare for the activity: Bring
food, water, and extra clothing, and a donation for gas if
carpooling. Make sure your equipment is adequate and
that you have the skill and stamina necessary for the
trip, and consider a donation for gas if carpooling.
Trail crampons ("cleats" or "spikes") may be useful
if conditions are not suitable for skis or snowshoes.

Snowshoe (or boot) on the Bonneville
Shoreline Trail
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip on the Bonneville
Shoreline Trail on Saturday, (New Year’s Eve Day). This is
an easy/moderate snowshoe or boot hike, about 4 miles round
trip and 300 feet of elevation. The route follows the “Deer
Fence” north from Blacksmith Fork. This is the last
opportunity to see (and hear?) coyotes at the nearby
predator research facility before the trail is closed for
the winter, with an expected return about 1:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip at Green
Canyon on Monday (New Year Day holiday). This is a
moderate cross-country ski or snowshoe event, about 6 miles
round trip and 800 feet of elevation (skiers go on the
groomed forest road while snowshoers follow the “single
track”), with an expected return about 2:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip at Stump
Hollow on Sunday. This is a moderate cross-country ski
or snowshoe event, about 4 miles round trip and 600 feet of
elevation, mostly through forested terrain, with an expected
return about 3:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a
winter event inSmithfield Canyonon Saturday.
This is a moderate snowshoe or cross-country ski activity
along Summit Creek, about 5 miles round trip and 650 feet
of elevation, with an expected return about 3:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip in Sink
Hollow and the Idaho Border on Monday (MLK Holiday).
This is a moderate snowshoe or cross-country ski activity,
about 5 miles round trip and 500 feet of elevation, through
open and forested terrain, with an expected return about
3:00 pm.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip from the Logan
Canyon “UDOT Sheds” on Sunday. This is a moderate
snowshoe or cross-country ski activity of 3 miles with 500
feet of elevation, ascending the east side of Amazon Hollow
and returning via the groomed Swan Flat forest road, with an
expected return about 3:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip to Tony
Grove Creek on Sunday. This is a moderate
snowshoe/moderate cross-country ski activity, about 5 miles
round trip with 900 feet of elevation as we follow Tony
Grove Creek along an old roadway, with an expected return
about 3:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip at Bunchgrass
Creek on Sunday. This is a moderate snowshoe or
moderately-challenging cross-country ski event, about 5
miles round trip and 800 feet of elevation along Bunchgrass
Creek, with an expected return about 3:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip to
the North Fork of Wood
Camp Hollow on Saturday. This is a moderate
cross-country ski or snowshoe activity, mostly through open
valley bottom, about 4 miles round trip and 800 feet of
elevation, with an expected return about 3:00 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip to Long
Hollow on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous
cross-country ski or snowshoe activity, about 4 miles with
1200 feet of elevation gain, beginning at the Sink Hollow
Winter Trailhead
and heading northwest up the ridge adjacent to Long
Hollow
, with an expected return about 4:30 p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter trip to White
Pine Ridge on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous
cross-country ski or snowshoe activity, about 5 miles round
trip with 1200 feet of elevation gain as we explore terrain
above White Pine Creek, with an expected return about 4:30
p.m.
The Cache Hikers will host a winter moonlight
excursion from the Murray
Farm Trailhead on Saturday Evening. This is an
easy snowshoe or moderate cross-country ski activity to a
view point overlooking Cache Valley, about 3 miles round
trip with 500 feet of elevation. Meet 6:00 p.m.
at the southwest corner of the Smith's Marketplace parking
lot at 750 North Main Street and expect to return about
11:00 pm. Bring a headlamp/flashlight, warm drink and warm
clothing. (Moonrise 3:39 p.m., 95% illumination (actual
full moon is March 7).

winter event in Logan Dry Canyon on Saturday. This
is a moderately strenuous snowshoe activity, about 5 miles
round trip and 1500 feet elevation, with an expected
return about 3:00 p.m.
