2024 Summer Activity Schedule
 
Summer trips are scheduled from mid-May to early October. Visitors are welcome!

Meet 8:00 a.m.
at the southwest corner of the Smith's Marketplace parking lot at 750 North Main Street in Logan, Utah unless specified otherwise. The trip leader determines the anticipated return time and any need to alter plans, if necessary.

Prepare for the activity:
Bring food, water, and extra clothing. Make sure your equipment is adequate and that you have the skill and stamina necessary for the trip.

Rattlesnake Canyon
The Cache Hikers will host a hike up Rattlesnake Canyon on Sunday. This easy 5-mile out-and-back hike ascends 900 feet from the trailhead in Wellsville Canyon to a hilltop overlooking Cache Valley. Willow Creek - Cottonwood
The Cache Hikers will host a hike up the Willow Creek drainage on Sunday. This is a moderate 6.5-mile loop hike with about 1100 feet of elevation gain.  Located in the Right Hand Fork of Logan Canyon, hikers will enjoy early summer wildflowers and great views as they travel up Willow Creek and return via Little Cottonwood Canyon, with an expected return about 3:00 p.m. Susan, 435-770-2478, email Susan

Curtis Ridge
The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Curtis Ridge on Sunday. This is a moderate hike of 6 miles round trip with 1300 feet of ascent, from Curtis Creek near Hardware Ranch to a spring. Richards Hollow
The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike up Richards Hollow.  This is an out-and-back scenic trail with waterfalls, meadows, beaver dams, forest and perhaps some stream crossings.  Expect a moderately strenuous hike, about 10 miles round trip and 1700 feet elevation gain.  Meet at 8:00 a.m. and expect to return about 5:00 p.m.

Card Canyon Loop
The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Card Canyon on Sunday.  This is a moderately strenuous 6-mile loop hike with 2200 feet of ascent. Expect scenic views, wildflowers and an interesting rock feature along the way., with an expected return about 3:00 p.m. Dave P, 435-994-9548, email Dave P

Shortys Cutoff
The Cache Hikers will host a hike along Shortys Cutoff on Sunday. This moderate 7-mile route with a car shuttle will climb 1000 feet up Steep Hollow and south on Shortys Cutoff trail, then descend 1700 feet to Steam Mill trailhead. At least one vehicle will be positioned to shuttle hikers back to the beginning at Steep Hollow.  Expect great views, an historic steam boiler and a “bottle tree”, with possible side trips to a yurt and/or sinkhole, with an expected return about 4:00 p.m.

Bunchgrass Ridge
The Cache Hikers will host a hike in Bunchgrass Canyon on Sunday. This is a moderate hike of about 6.5 miles with 1200 feet of ascent. The route is a “lollipop” (a loop with a stem), mostly along unmaintained trails, with great views and impressive old limber pines. From the Tony Grove gravel pit, the route goes west along Bunchgrass Creek, then north on the White Pine Lake Trail before turning east and south to follow a ridge back to Bunchgrass. Mount Gog Meadow Hike - Backpack
The Cache Hikers will host an outing that follows the White Pine trail to a seldom used route SE of Mount Gog on Saturday, with a backpacking option for Sat – Mon.  This is a moderately strenuous day hike of about 7.4 miles and 1400 ft of ascent.  The group will have lunch together where there is a good view of lower White Pine Creek and the day-hikers will return to Tony Grove.  The backpackers will continue following the route another mile to a meadow near the Double-Top trail.  This mile may have downed trees and other off-trail challenges. Day hikers bring food, water, and appropriate clothing; backpackers prepare for a 2-night, 3-day excursion.  Day hikers are expected to return about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Corral Hollow Loop
The Cache Hikers will host a loop hike on the Idaho side of the Bear River Range. Hikers will travel from Corral Hollow along the Highline Trail to Danish Pass, then south via Egan Basin, Blue Lake and Gibson Basin before returning to Corral Hollow. This is a moderately strenuous hike, about 12 miles with 2000 feet of ascent, traveling over hiking trails, ATV trails and forest roads.  Expect to return about 6:00.

Coldwater Spring Loop The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Coldwater Spring on Sunday. Traveling in a loop from Tony Grove via the Bear Hollow trail, hikers will enjoy wildflowers and scenic views.  Moderately strenuous, about 8 miles with 1800 feet of elevation gain, with an expected return about 4:00 p.m.

High Creek Lake

Washington Lake Group Camping Trip
The Cache Hikers will host a 3-night (Thurs-Sun) camping and hiking trip to Washington Lake along the Mirror Lake Highway in the Uinta Mountains. We will use the Lincoln Group Site, located at 10,000 feet elevation, and hike from nearby trailheads. Camping fee will be divided by participants. Limit: 30 people. Reservations are required. 18 August, 2024 (Sunday) Swan Peak The Cache Hikers will host a hike to Swan Peak on Sunday.  This is a moderate hike of 4 miles round trip with a 900 foot ascent to a great viewpoint overlooking Bear Lake

Pig Hole
The Cache Hikers will host a loop hike in the Left Fork of Blacksmith Fork on the Hog Hole and Pig Hole trails on Sunday.  This is a moderate hike of 4 miles round trip with a 1200-foot ascent. There will be fording of two streams, traveling on seldom-hiked trails and walking a half-mile along a gravel road, with an expected return about 3:00 p.m.

Tony Grove to Bunchgrass
The Cache Hikers will host a Monday hike on Labor Day weekend to Bunchgrass Creek via Tony Grove and White Pine Canyon. This moderately strenuous hike will be about 11 miles with 1000 feet elevation gain (a car shuttle is required). Expect peak views and late summer flowers, with an expected return about 6:00 p.m.

Naomi Peak
The Cache Hikers will host a  hike to Naomi Peak on Sunday. This is a moderately strenuous 6.5-mile round trip with an elevation gain of about 1900 feet to the highest peak in the Bear River Range. Ephraims Grave
The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday hike to the grave of the last grizzly bear in Utah. This is a moderately strenuous 12-mile hike with 2600 feet of ascent. The route follows about 6 miles of hiking trails, 2 miles of jeep roads and 4 miles of motorcycle-legal trails in a loop that begins and ends at Right Hand Fork. Pat Hollow or Peter Sinks
The Cache Hikers will host either a hike to Pat Hollow or to Peter Sinks on Sunday – the hike leader will decide in has decided in advance. The Pat Hollow trip involves car travel up a rough Forest road, then an easy 5-mile round-trip walk along a jeep road to the site where a military transport plane crashed in 1953.  The hike to Peter Sinks is moderately strenuous, with about 1700 feet of ascent and 10.5 miles round trip. Formed when underground limestone rock dissolved, Peter Sinks is large bowl-shaped depression and often one of the coldest locations in the U.S. Expect to return about 4:00 p.m.

Leatham Hollow
The Cache Hikers will host a hike on Sunday up Leatham Hollow. This is a moderate hike providing great views into Cache Valley, with about 2000 feet of ascent and 8 miles round trip, with an expected return about 4:00 p.m.

Jardine Juniper - Cottonwood Canyon
The Cache Hikers will host a Sunday car shuttle hike to the Jardine Juniper. This moderately strenuous hike ascends the Old Juniper trail, climbing 1800 feet in 5 miles, to Jardine Juniper, then steeply descends on an old route, 2 miles to Cottonwood Canyon. At least one vehicle will be positioned to shuttle hikers from the hike’s end at Cottonwood Canyon, back to the beginning at Wood Camp. Expect fall colors and great views on this hike to an iconic destination, with an expected return about 4:00 p.m.
